As we enter Grama Bay, you'll immediately understand why it has been a sanctuary for seafarers for over 2,000 years. The name "Grama" comes from the Greek word for 'writing', and it’s here that the bay reveals its greatest treasure.

For centuries, sailors caught in storms or seeking rest on their long journeys found shelter in this cove. As thanks for their salvation or as a prayer for safe passage, they left their mark. The sheer rock walls, once ancient quarries, became a guestbook written by history itself.

You will have time to walk along the shore and witness these messages from the past. There are over 1,500 inscriptions, including:

Ancient Greek & Latin: Prayers to the mythical protectors of sailors, Castor and Pollux (the Dioscures), dating back to the 3rd century BC. Medieval Markings: Byzantine crosses and symbols left by sailors of the Eastern Roman Empire.

Modern History: Even messages from sailors and soldiers in the 20th century.
